Digital marketing seems to have become the watchword for every brand in 2023. Brands are all getting on the bandwagon and trying to be the best and the brightest digitally. But is that enough?
The thing with the digital medium is that it’s rarely ever static. It keeps changing at a breakneck speed and that’s where brands end up losing out. So in our selfless effort to keep you ahead of the curve this year, here are the top digital marketing trends for 2023.
The Metaverse is here.
Yes, the Metaverse was there in 2022 but in 2023, it’s going to be bigger than ever, though it’s still a question mark for most marketers. Think of it like Instagram right in the beginning or Linkedin when people still saw it as a platform purely for job hunts and resumes. The brands that truly understood the platforms in their early days, and were able to use them, are the ones who are minting today.
85% of social media marketers anticipate incorporating new technologies, like virtual reality and the metaverse, into their social media strategy within the next year, so strike now whilst competition is low, interest is high and the opportunity to mark your brand as an innovative enterprise is still hot!
Data is going to be everything.
Data has always been everything, but it’s going to be the king in 2023. Data is going to be the base for everything, predicting market trends, industry and business forecasting, understanding the market dynamics and the competitor landscape for startups and new businesses and so on.
The more you are able to use data to your advantage, the bigger of a head start you will have.
The rise of AI
AI, both for content and visuals, came into its own in 2022, and in 2023 it’s going to be bigger than ever. Use it for writing, use it for market research, use it to create artistic visuals that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise or use it to help you in your content writing journey.
The AI market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 38.0% from 2021 to 2030. This includes AI-powered content, designing, voice assistants, video technology and anything else that gets invented in 2023.
Micro and nano-influencers
While influencer marketing isn’t a new concept, in 2023, brands are going to be more focused on micro and nano influencers. This doesn’t mean that they are going to stop working with the bigger influencers, but they are definitely going to be more conscious of the expenditure.
This trend started in 2022 and so far, it is clearly working, with nearly two-thirds (68%) of businesses that budget for influencer marketing increasing their influencer marketing budget since according to Influencer Marketing Hub data.
Consumers are also switching off from the big influencers as they find nano and micro influencers to be much more relatable. Nano influencers also make your budget stretch further, which makes it easier to have a constant influencer marketing campaign running for your brand. This ensures that your brand is consistently being marketed to your relevant audience, creating a better consumer relationship over time.
Mobile Augmented Reality
The AR market is projected to be worth over $18 billion in 2023, with over 3.5 billion AR users, and while the concept isn’t a new one, mobile AR is going to be big this year.
Mobile AR allows developers to create experiences that are tied to specific locations in space. In the past, AR experiences have been purely relative to the user or in arbitrary locations set by the user. Geospatial API allows developers to set latitude and longitude coordinates for AR content. Scanning the physical space isn’t necessary either. It works by comparing images of the surrounding area to Google Street View images to determine a specific location nearly instantaneously.
While these trends may seem a lot and very complicated to implement, you don’t have to start big or try to implement everything.
Start small, with easy-to-implement projects and ideas and delegate wherever you feel you don’t have the capabilities in your organisation. The more you familiarise yourself with the digital landscape, the easier it will be for you to stay ahead of the curve. If not, you may find yourself playing catch-up and that will definitely hamper your ability to take your business to the next level.
